Recreation for Shasta Cascade
Volcanic eruptions on the Medicine Lake Shield Volcano have created an incredibly rugged landscape punctuated by cinder
cones, lava flows, spatter cones, lava tube caves and pit craters.
Active volcanism includes hot springs, steaming fumaroles, mud pots, and sulfurous vents.
National Recreation Area
Whiskeytown Unit, with its mountainous backcountry and large reservoir, provides a multitude of outdoor recreation opportunities as well as remains of buildings built during the Gold Rush.
